Find out how to disable the SuperFetch service and why it is not needed for use with an SSD.
Superfetch is responsible for frequently used programs. With Superfetch enabled, the boot process and the program starting can be increased with HDD’s. With an SSD, this advantage is can not be used, because the SSD starts programs very fast anyway. Superfetch even can slowdown the system a little bit.
Step 1 – Activating Superfetch:
Find the „Superfetch“ Service in the Services area of Windows.
Choose the starttyp “deactivated”.
Now you have only to edit one entry in the registry. To do that click on the Windowsstartbutton (1), and fill the searchfield with the text “regedit” (2). Now click on „regedit“(3).
Navigate to the key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParameters” (1) on the left side and doubleclick on the entry “EnableSuperfetch” (2). Fill the field Value with the number “0″ (3) and click on “OK” (4).
After a reset of your computer the settings will be enabled.
